Microsoft Windows 2000 eMail ( Note: This software is not supported by the Demon Helpdesk ). Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. This walkthrough shows the Internet Connection Wizard which is activated from the desktop of a new installation of Windows 2000, and is only used to set up Outlook Express for the first time. If you have already configured Dial-Up Networking or Outlook Express, please click here to see the walkthrough for Outlook Express 5 for Windows NT, 95 or 98, as it is identical to the Windows 2000 version. To Configure your email account follow these step by step instructions.
To set up your email click Yes then click Next.
On this screen you have the option to import your email settings from another email client or to set up a brand new one. If you don't have an email client set up already, click Create a new Internet mail account, then click Next to continue.
Enter your Full name or Company name. This will appear on all emails sent by you. Note: Full name, refers to your first name and surname. Click on Next to continue.
The username can be anything of your choice, i.e. email or your first name etc. The hostname is the hostname registered with Demon Internet, and demon.co.uk is the domain. Now enter your email address and then click on Next to continue.
Make sure that POP3 is selected. For the Incoming mail enter, pop3.demon.co.uk. For the Outgoing mail enter post.demon.co.uk. Click on Next to continue.
For your account name enter, your demon hostname. Enter your Login or POP3 password in the password box and put a tick in remember password box. The account name must be in lowercase, the password is case sensitive. If you do not have a POP3 password and you would like to setup a POP3 password click here. Click on Next to continue.
Click on Finish to complete the setup. Windows 2k email bounce problem The following advice may be useful in solving the email bounce problem encountered by many Demon customers who are Windows 2000 users. By default, Demon will attempt to deliver email to your machine via SMTP whenever you connect. If you do not intend to receive email via SMTP (e.g. you are using email software such as Outlook or Outlook Express configured to receive email from Demon via POP3), you MUST ensure the SMTP Service that Windows 2000 may automatically run is disabled. This can be done by the following:
Now you will no longer suffer from email being rejected and bounced back to the sender. Alternatively you can disable SMTP mail delivery from Demon by using Demon's Webpassword utility.
