Demon's FTP Server We provide a wealth of information via publicly accessible FTP server, ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/. If you have a program which you feel could be of general use, this can be included on the server. The upload must be legal and able to be freely distributed. This applies to public domain software, shareware, and files without copyright, although copyright in itself is not a problem as long as the holder has agreed to distribution. Programs which are locked to prevent their use until a payment (or some act of registration) is made are generally refused, although programs which have reduced functionality until registered (crippleware) are acceptable, as long as they are still usable in some form. Exceptions can be made should you wish to offer both an evaluation module and a registered version (which is enabled, for example, by the use of a 'site key'), with both versions made publicly available. Uploading to the FTP serverUse FTP to copy the files to ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/. All uploads should be placed into the appropriate /incoming directory. Specific incoming directories are available for programs dealing with the Amiga, Archimedes, Atari, RiscPC, and diabetes. These can be found in the heirarchies set up for these areas of interest. Should your program not fall under these categories, the directory /pub/incoming/ should be used. All uploads must be accompanied with a mail to the appropriate maintainer.
This mail needs to include:
It is also recommended that you provide a copy of the message as an ascii file as a part of your upload. Try to keep names similar, e.g. xyz33.zip would have xyz33.txt or xyz33.readme. Should you have any difficulties with the uploading of files to the server, please contact helpdesk@demon.net. General questions relating to the content of the site or potential uploads should be addressed to uploads@demon.net.
